Achievements of Care of Afghan Families (CAF)

  • Policy Development Contributions: CAF has significantly influenced health sector policy through active participation in various forums and clusters, including:
    • National Standard Treatment Guidelines (NSTG)
    • BPHS 2005 Revision
    • National Health Strategic (NHS) 2016-2020
    • Health Strengthening System (HSS)
    • Coordinated Procurement Drugs Supply System (CPDS)
    • Health, Nutrition, GBV, and Wash clusters
  • Project Implementation: Successfully executed 175 projects by the end of 2023 funded by various international Donors such as USAID, World Bank, European Commission, UN Agencies (WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, WFP, UNOPS, UN-OCHA).
  • Service Provision: Delivered health, nutrition, education, community development, and empowerment services to an estimated population of 11,909,604 individuals, including women, men, boys, and girls across various provinces of Afghanistan.
  • Capacity Building: Enhanced staff capabilities by facilitating their participation in PhD, MPH, MBA, BBA programs, and short courses/trainings both inside and outside Afghanistan.
  • Training Programs: Trained 192 community midwives and 96 community nurses, achieving a 100% employment rate.
  • Youth Internships: Provided internships to 100 youths, with an 80% employment rate post-internship.
  • Establishment of Centers: Established 4 Women Protection Centers (WPC) and 4 Family Guidance Centers (FGC) in 4 provinces of Afghanistan, resolving 1,925 GBV cases.
  • International Presence: Established CAF in the USA
  • Establishment of NGO: Established and founded the Women-Led Organization (CAF-CDO).
  • Support to National NGOs: Assisted national NGOs (SHDP, BARAN, OPHA, OREAD, CAF-CDO) in establishing governance, internal control systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Grant Achievement: Sole recipient of the World Bank South Asia Development Marketplace grant for the Baby-Friendly Village Initiative, a nutrition-focused project.
  • Recognition and Awards: Received numerous appreciation certificates from donors, community leaders, provincial governors, MoPH, developmental partners, MoE, and MoF, attesting to CAF’s satisfactory performance.
  • Capacity Building for Local NGOs: Improved the capacity of 18 local Afghan NGO staff in seven modules: Project Management, Financial Management, Gender Integration in Projects, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Organizational Governance, and Human Resource Management under USAID funding.
  • Hospital Services Recognition: Recognized as one of the best NGOs in implementing hospital services in Afghanistan, awarded the Afghan-Japan hospital’s implementation through a comprehensive analysis by the Ministry of Public Health.
  • Financial Management and Assessment: Rated as a low-risk organization by various donors through assessments conducted by recognized companies in different thematic areas. Governance & Leadership, HR Management, Procurement Management, Financial Management, Program Management, etc…
  • Audits: CAF Perform annual External Audit in accordance to International Standards on Auditing and as of March 19, 2024 Audits are performed and Reports are available.
